I think most of us are aware April 2012 marked the centenary of the fateful night when the RMS Titanic sank. We know the story – this was a huge cruise ship which was professed to be unsinkable. It was, at the time, an extraordinary achievement – a modern, well fitted out ship which was designed to provided accommodation for a diverse range of passengers from the rich and famous, through the middle classes, to the lowly workers and their families who had saved avidly for months from their meagre income in order to travel to pastures new lookng for a better quality of life.

Vegetarian Curry Puff Parcels
This is one of TV Chef, Gary Rhodes recipes. They’re usually cooked with beef and baked in a Malaysian pastry parcel but he’s adapted them to suit vegetarians and to utilise more readily available puff pastry. They’re designed as a starter but I think they would be perfect for an alfresco dinner party with salad.

Homemade Egg Nog
You’re probably like me – buy egg nog in a bottle, but during my hunt for Christmas cocktails I came across this recipe so thought I might have a bash at it!
I always used to be given a bottle of Irish Cream Liqueur (Baileys in particular!) as a Christmas present but I can only assume this is “so 1980s darling” that those friends who used to send me my favourite Christmas tipple prefer now to send me more trendy alcoholic drinks.

This recipe isn’t one for the novice cook, but if you’re a vegetarian and/or enjoy baking, this could be a recipe you may want to try out. This serves about four (depending on the size of your appetite!) so may be a nice idea for a supper party with a couple of friends, or maybe for serving up at a barbecue if you have vegetarian friends joining you.
