I know a lot of adults out there add a drop of whisky to their late night milky beverage but this recipe I came across has a very distinct Christmassy feel to it and there’s no need for milk.

There’s enough to serve four people but it’s easy enough to up or down the measurements depending on how many people you’re making it for. As the main ingredient in this is water it’s ideal over Christmas when maybe you want a hot chocolate drink but are running short of milk.

You’re probably like me – buy egg nog in a bottle, but during my hunt for Christmas cocktails I came across this recipe so thought I might have a bash at it!

I always used to be given a bottle of Irish Cream Liqueur (Baileys in particular!) as a Christmas present but I can only assume this is “so 1980s darling” that those friends who used to send me my favourite Christmas tipple prefer now to send me more trendy alcoholic drinks.

The recipe states that there’s enough here for 6 servings but it depends on how large or how small you want to make them. This sounds an incredibly odd combination but bearing in mind we all happily eat carrot cake and, during the war when sugar was rationed, many a desperate housewife with confectionary starved kids turned to sweeter root vegetables as a substitute, for example carrot, parsnip and beetroot, then maybe it's not as weird as it sounds

I think most of us have at some stage made or eaten a bog standard chocolate cake based on the basic recipe of fat, flour, sugar, cocoa powder and eggs, but this one is just a tad more indulgent.
