My partner Adam and I love nothing more than venturing out into our stunning and peaceful local countryside and spending our leisure time lurking in the hedgerows and along the seashore, river banks or unique Norfolk broads, peeking into every nook and cranny searching out interesting fauna and flora to spy through our binoculars or photograph with our digital cameras.

Birds are social; they converse using visual signals and through calls and songs, and take part in social behaviours including collaborative breeding and hunting and mobbing of predators. At present about 1,200 species of birds are threatened with extinction by human activities, though efforts are underway to safeguard them.

Ecuador has an avifauna diversity that is unparalleled throughout the world. Of the 3000 species of birds inhabiting the continent of South America, over half of those species can be encountered in this small and friendly nation. What makes birding in Ecuador even more appealing is that most of these birds are easily accessible by public transportation. It is the goal of this blog to highlight the avian beauty of this country through photographic images and in-depth descriptions.
