If you’re of the “old school” like me, almost as soon as you made an appearance into the world you were set daily routines, one of which was to have a regular sleep pattern. I like to think my parents’ diligence in sticking to this bedtime regime has gone a considerable way to creating a relatively healthy and moderately intelligent adult.

There’s some very strange medical research on the go at the moment, not least this one which suggests that if you ball up your right hand and squeeze it tightly it can help you to memorise lists! This may be one for students to try out before they get into their exams!!

Once again, despite my love of British history, the only thing that I seem to remember from my school days about King Alfred is that he was holed up somewhere in some sort of boggy terrain following a lengthy battle and, due to exhaustion had fallen asleep by a fire and managed to burn some cakes!
