Dear Santa

The air that night was sweet and damp with the promise of a fall shower. The scent was good, clean and fresh. Fall was in the air, chilled and crisp, hinting of the certainty of the cold to come. The impending shower whether by pressure, temperature, moisture or magic, covered and softened the innumerable smells of the city. The concrete and asphalt, even the stench of the over filled dumpsters and the rising plumes of diesel fumes were somehow sweetened and masked. Before the rage of the storm all was calm, hushed, and pleasant.
