I was looking forward to my long 2012 Easter break. I'd been working incredibly long hours and, by mid Thursday afternoon, I couldn't wait to finish my working week and spend four days relaxing. But was it to be? Don't be daft; of course it wasn't!

The Turkish film Junction is about the stories of 4 different people and how their tragedies intercept. Don't get me wrong. This is not the kind of movie which is designed to make you cry. Even though you will probably feel sorry for the characters, there aren’t any cheesy elements of that sort. In fact, the story takes it slow to show you what these characters are about.

Cagan Irmak is an acclaimed Turkish director who proves in his movie “KARANLIKTAKILER / IN DARKNESS” that his success is not a coincidence. He does not try any tricks while he is showing us the world of the characters in the story. Instead, he takes a very straightforward approach, and just tells us who these characters are. He does not try to twist the story, nor tries to startle the audience with unexpected issues until the end of the story. He uses all the time to tell us who these characters are, how they live, how they interact with each other and the world they live in.
