During my childhood mom used to sew dresses for the girls and shirts for the boys. If she wasn't making something new, she was probably repairing something. The only thing I ever remember her sewing for herself, was her aprons. My mom always wore an apron. Nothing fancy, just one she made for herself on her sewing machine out of left over gingham or scraps . Her apron had a prominent place in our house. The doorknob to her room. She said it was convenient there, the first thing she put on in the mornings as she left her room and she always removed it as she entered her room at night.

It is said that youth is waisted on the young. This poem was inspired by a man, not yet elderly and no longer young. He was at that age when the mind still feels youthful but the body is saying it's time to slow down.
