Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki raft was the inspiration for The Plastiki
The late Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl was world famous for having crossed the ocean on a raft he called the Kon-Tiki and many years after this pioneering achievement adventurer David de Rothschild was inspired to create a catamaran made from plastic bottles and called The Plastiki. De Rothschild sailed across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Sydney.
