I wrote this monologue after experiencing tiredness when I drove down to my family in the south of England I was living in the north at the time well over 400 miles away - after 7 or 8 hours driving through the night with only 20 or 30 minutes before reaching Mum's, the tiredness started to get to me and yes, I did start singing to keep myself awake and yes, Nellie the Elephant was one of those songs.
