What is colic? Colic is extremely painful gas which causes an infant to cry nearly incessantly.

The hours of crying fits caused by colic can be stressful for both parents and baby. Colic is a very common condition among newborns which causes the baby to cry much more than the typical infant. Though its cause is unknown, the two most common theories are that either the baby is suffering from frequent bouts of uncomfortable gas or that the baby is overly sensitive to environmental stimulation and stress. Whatever the cause, colicky fits can last for hours and interfere with an infant's ability to sleep soundly.
