I remember being pretty disappointed when I first saw “The Funhouse”. I found it a little too … pointless. The storyline was too slim. Sure, most of these old ‘80s horror flicks have slim storylines; a bunch of kids you don’t care about go someplace they shouldn’t and get killed. Have sex and die! But “The Funhouse” felt unusually weak -- it has a great basic idea, but doesn’t deliver.

Retro Horror Review: "Splatter University" (1984)
Why do I keep on watching these movies? Well, because I prefer bad movies to boring movies -- boring movies are always worse that bad ones. And I hadn’t seen the movies mentioned above before. And when it comes to “Splatter University”, I hadn’t even heard of it.
This atrocity was the directorial debut of Richard W. Haines. His next movie was “Class of Nuke ‘Em High” (1986) for Troma, which was followed by something called “Alien Space Avenger” and a handful more titles -- and apparently, he’s still active today.

Retro Horror Review: Blood Salvage (1989)
“Blood Salvage” is about the Pruitt family. It’s dad Jake (Danny Nelson) and his two sons, Hiram (an inbred redneck if there ever was one) and the overweight and retarded Roy; a guy who reminds me of Lennie in “Of Mice and Men”.

Retro Horror Review: Night of the Demon (1980)
“Night of the Demon” was directed by a fellow called James C. Wasson. He only directed this movie. Nothing else. No more feature films, nothing for TV. After having seen his video nasty, I’m not surprised.
It all opens with a very stiff and badly acted prologue in which a bunch of people interrogate poor professor Nugent, who’s lying in a bed in a hospital. The lower part of his face is bandaged, but he’s no problems speaking. What’s happened to him? Well, that’s what he’s about to tell us, and the rest of the movie is one long flashback.

Movie Review: Scream 4
Craven’s last movie, “My Soul to Take," which was in 3-D, opened in the States in October 2010 and got absolutely trashed by the critics. (I haven’t seen it myself.) So, the director, who turns 72 this summer, badly needs a hit -- he sure doesn’t give up -- so why not try making another chapter in the hugely successful “Scream” suite?
