Movie Review: Captain America (1979)
The “Captain America” pilot is absolutely hilarious. Reb Brown is artist Steve Rogers. He’s tall and brawny, but he walks like a Neanderthal man and looks a tad dim.
Back in the 1940s, Steve’s dad was the legendary hero Captain America. Bad guys are looking for the late Rogers Senior’s secrets and they try to kill poor Steve. Dr. Simon Mills (Len Birman) saves Steve by injecting the mysterious FLAG serum into him. This gives Steve super powers -- unlike the Steve Rogers in the comics and in Joe Johnston’s new movie, Reb Brown’s Steve already is a beefcake before the experiment.

Raymond Carver’s short story “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” is a deceptively simple read. While the appears to be relatively light-hearted, a tale of two couples musing on matters of love over a bottle of gin, Carver manages to subtly weave in some very intense meditations on the nature of love, passion, commitment and even violence and death. Although the story is a light read, it challenges the reader to evaluate their own ideas and philosophies on some very complicated themes.
