The William books by Richmal Crompton have retained their charm and appeal for the school going child through several decades. I remember reading them as a child (and I still enjoy them). Children love William, the mischievous 11 year old schoolboy with a penchant for adventure and a flair for getting into (and often out of) trouble with the powers that be.
