As a card-carrying member of the Minnesota Historical Society who was born in 1968, you can imagine my glee when I heard they were designing an entire exhibit dedicated to the year of my birth. I looked forward to it for months. My good-natured family went along with my double-dose of historical geekiness and accompanied me to the exhibit on opening weekend last month. I was not disappointed.

Defend Dignity - The Abolition of Prostitution In Canada

Charging women, giving them criminal records, jailing them for breaching conditions or failure to appear, does nothing to address the conditions which make women enter or stay in prostitution. It simply makes their lives more miserable, and more marginal. If the goal is to stop the harm to women, criminalizing the women is a flawed strategy.

Decriminalization of prostitution makes no distinction between the women who are purchased for sex and then men who purchase them.
