During the 19th century, artists from the Barbizon School were painting in Limousin. Their interest in studying landscape directly from nature was continued by the French Impressionists, including Monet. Camille Corot also painted in Limousin, near St Junien, Haute-Vienne. Ecellent Contemporary Art Centres in Limousin, like Rochechouart Chateau, continue to promote the arts in Limousin today.
