The woods are alive … with the sound of screaming!

Now, how’s that for a tagline?

Maybe I ought to be ashamed, but I’ve had a soft spot for “Bodycount” since it was released in 1987, and I’ve seen it multiple time since; first the Swedish VHS, then the British DVD, and now some uncut version (I believe the Swedish and UK releases were slightly trimmed, but I’m not sure, it’s hard to tell). This is a curiously late entry in the teen slasher cycle of the 1980s and it’s very, very generic.

But you know what? I’m not ashamed! I like this movie -- and the reasons are plenty.

The movie opens with a married couple who takes a drive with their very young son Billy. Somebody has messed with the brakes and the couple is killed in a gory car accident. Little Billy is raised by his over-protective aunt Cheryl (Susan Tyrrell).

“Blood Salvage” is about the Pruitt family. It’s dad Jake (Danny Nelson) and his two sons, Hiram (an inbred redneck if there ever was one) and the overweight and retarded Roy; a guy who reminds me of Lennie in “Of Mice and Men”.
