After a short food stop, we hopped back in the car for the next leg of the trip, and mum turned the radio on and looked for a local station with decent reception. An old song came on and mum paused briefly. She switched the station, but that was playing the same song; and the next, and the next. Four stations playing the same song - too weird. Mum snapped off the radio.

As Mum began serving us kids our breakfast, our dog Chloe started barking furiously at the front door as if someone was walking down the path. I went to find out what the ruckus was about and opened the door to see who’d arrived. But there was no one to be seen. Chloe stopped barking and instead danced and jumped in the doorway as though greeting someone she knew and loved.
