Jor-El sends his only son to Earth, due to their homeworld of Krypton falling apart. Clark grows up knowing he's different from everyone else, as this forces him to inevitably embark on a journey to figure out who he is, and why he was ever sent to Earth to begin with. However, General Zod shows up to wipe out humanity to create a new Krypton, so now Clark must become Superman to save the world from impending doom.

It's hard to believe sometimes that Superman has been a part of American pop culture for nearly a century now. In fact, like so many of you, I grew up reading the Superman comics. Next to Spider-Man, Superman was my favorite comic book to read. Although it wasn't always like that, there used to be a time I hated Superman. Seriously, outside the first two movies with Christopher Reeves, I hated the character. Why? He merely too much of a boyscout to me, and it seems nothing was ever a problem for him. Everything in Metropolis would be fine.

Wealthy businessman Ross Webster discovers the hidden talents of Gus Gorman, a mischievous computer genius. Ross decides to abuse his talents, in a way to help Webster with his plans for economic control. When the man of steel interferes, something must be done about Supes. When Gus' synthetic Kryptonite fails to kill Superman, it turns him in an evil incarnation of his former self. The tar-laced Kryptonite pits man against himself, setting up the Clark vs. Superman battle.
