Rankin Bass Productions creates this made for TV animated film about Oz. Unlike the other adaptations of Oz, this one isn't based on any of Baum's books, nor does it try to convey any original story, as it merely tells how Dorothy returns to Oz. Upon her arrival, she soon learns that the wicked witch of the west is back for revenge. This movie pretty much rips off the first story so much that it should have just been a remake.

Based on the musical play version back in 1902. However, this version includes the "Wicked Witch"; while the play never featured her. Although this wasn't L. Frank Baum's first attempt to adapt "The Wizard of Oz" books to the big screen, but this is the only known earliest surviving adaptation that exists. Back in 1910, a short silent film was made about "Wizard of Oz." Although many might still hold the 1939 version, as the superior film.

The original short film still maintains a quality all it's own.
