How to Fix An Evaporative (Swamp) Cooler: Get Your Cooler Winter Ready

Evaporative (swamp) coolers are an energy efficient way to cool a house in dry climates. They consist of a water reservoir 3-5 inches in depth. This water is sent, via a water pump, to a water distributor, which passes the water over a wet cell or pad. This wet cell is basically a large cardboard air filter. Air is pumped through this wet filter, and this water cooled air is then pumped into the house through normal duct work. Evaporative coolers are generally shut down over the winter months and must be readied for this long dormant period.

So You Want To Make Borsh?

In a frying pan you will need:

6 Peeled and grated beets
3 Grated carrots
1 Large onion diced
3 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tbsp sugar
Salt + pepper

Put in the beets and onions first and sweat out over medium heat with a tablespoon of unsalted butter. To contain the color of the beets, add lemon juice.

When the onions soften, add in the carrots and cook for 2 minutes.
Set aside.

In a different frying pan:

1 medium tomato
4 large minced garlic cloves
In a frying pan with olive oil, add the tomato and garlic. Cook for 2 minutes.
