Painting with rags is a technique that is easily learned. Using rags to paint or ragging is a nice way to add a unique finish to a room's walls or ceilings (or just about any other surface you want to finish. You do not need to be an expert in faux finishes or difficult, advanced painting techniques. The paint technique of rag rolling can be done by most anyone. John Vanderlyn-A Short Biography
The American artist John Vanderlyn was born at Kingston, New York, on the 15th of October 1776. He was employed by a print-seller in New York, and was first instructed in art by Archibald Robinson (1765-1835), a Scotsman who was afterwards one of the directors of the American Academy. He copied some of Gilbert Stuart's portraits, including one of Aaron Burr, who placed him under Gilbert Stuart as a pupil.

Jackson Pollack was an innovative abstract painter. There was a film about this painter called Pollack. It was a terrific film featuring Ed Harris in the title role. After I saw the film, I thought, "Wow! Maybe, I can paint like that too?"
I couldn't paint like him, but there are ways to make your painting resemble Jackson Pollack's style ..... at least to the untrained eye ;-)
