AMSTERDAM—Royal Philips Electronics NV warned Monday that severe pricing pressure in the television market will lead to a first-quarter operating loss for the company's TV business.
The profit warning for the TV unit, which has been a drag on the company for several years, extinguishes any hope that the division could turn profitable in 2011, and forces the question of whether Philips' new Chief Executive Frans van Houten should sell the unit when he takes the helm after the company's annual general meeting on Thursday.
