Because of light pollution two thirds of the U.S. can no longer see the Milky Way. Sky glow blots out all but the brightest stars and masks the beauty of the night sky. But light pollution hurts more than the view. Light pollution is responsible for the death of millions of migrating birds who crash into brightly lit buildings or are so disoriented by bright lights that they fly in endless circles until they die. Newly hatched sea turtles head for the streets instead of the ocean, and light pollution disrupts nesting, mating and life cycles of other wildlife.Humans are also affected.
