My daughter did the Live Butterfly Garden a couple of years ago in preschool and loved it. The kids all seemed to learn and remember a lot about the butterfly life cycle so it was perfect for their class. We are now attempting to start our own butterfly garden and just waiting for it to come in the mail. This product has been around a long time and has some great reviews so I am conficent it will be a great experience.

Unlike most other insects in temperate climates, monarch butterflies cannot survive a long cold winter. Every fall, North American monarchs fly south to spend the winter at roosting sites. Monarchs are the only butterflies to make such a long, two-way migration, flying up to 3000 miles in the fall to reach their winter destination. Amazingly, they fly in masses to the same winter roosts, often to the exact same trees. Their migration is more the type we expect from birds or whales than insects. However, unlike birds and whales, individuals only make the round-trip once.

The Insect Lore Butterfly Garden has to be one of the coolest things I have ever given to my daughter. This is really amazing to watch as the caterpillars turn to butterflies in a few weeks. My daughter was totally into the whole process and loved reading about how the whole process worked because she could see it all happen. This is something that any kid would love and it's educational. They are on sale now and spring and summer are the times to get these as you don't want to release the buterflies in to cold weather.
