This is an HD video of a mosquito sucking blood out of my finger. I shot the video using a Canon 5D Mark II camera body and a Canon MP-E 65mm lens. The mosquito goes from a skinny belly to a fat red blood filled belly in about 2 minutes.

Bookmark and Share Strange tiny red and black insects

I found these insects in my back yard last weekend. There were hundred of them in each clump. I found 5 large clumps. These were captured using a Canon 5D Mark II and a Canon MP-E 65mm lens with a Canon MT-24EX twin flash unit.

The immature stage of the Japaneses beetle - the white grub - typically has a three year life cycle. However, most of the damage to ornamentals and turf grass happens during the spring and fall the second year, when grubs are present in the top inch of the root zone, heavily feeding on grass roots and thatch. In the third year of the cycle, the grubs rise out of the soil as Japanese beetles.
