A Knight Called Oscar
The first Academy Award ceremony took place on May 16, 1929 at a dinner held in the Blossom Room at the Roosevelt Hotel. Two hundred and seventy people attended at a cost of $5 a ticket. At that time the ceremony was taken up the long speeches, the statuettes were handed out quickly thanks to its President Douglas Fairbanks Jr.
