Back in the day comic books were mostly promoted as children's reading, and boys especially were drawn to the bright colors of all those super heroes and super villains in spandex bashing away at one another. Eventually comics grew up, became more adult, but they continue to have an influence upon writers.

I love The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes!
The Avengers is a cartoon series produced by Marvel Animation and shown on Disney XD.
Now I'm a comic book fan from way back and I grew up with the original Spider Man, Fantastic Four and Marvel Super Heroes cartoons and no matter how cheap looking they were, I loved them.
To set the record straight here, I'm talking about the 1967 Spider Man cartoon, you know, the one with the really cool theme song.
