Vesuvius is situated near the bay of Naples which, unlike that Icelandic one, is a rather pleasant temperature most of the year round and thus has an amply large population (3 million), unlike the Icelandic one. Yes three million people have chosen to live on and around the volcano.
So what is the attraction of living on a volcano that could potentially explode at any moment with little chance of removing so many people in time should this occur? The municipality of Naples has tried to move on the molten rock dwellers through offering them enough money to move into new and safer accommodation. But very few, it seems, have taken up the offer. So let’s look seriously then at why??? Or rather:
