Just a 15-minute water bus ride away from the crowded streets around Venice's St Mark's Square, the Lido reminds us of a golden age, when movie stars and royalty sunned themselves at glamorous beach resorts. Today, the Lido is much quieter than its neighbors on the Venetian Lagoon, but its faded grandeur is a refreshing alternative to Venice's touristy main islands. In addition to the opulent resorts of old, the Lido hosts many smaller (and less expensive) hotels - that can be reached by car or bicycle, and are a short walk from the beach. In September, the Lido also hosts the Venice Film Festival.
