Bulgarian Lukoil subsidiary sponsored Socialist Party of Bulgaria, according to a diplomatic note sent by the U.S. Embassy in Sofia before elections in 2005 and cited by Wikileaks, Novinite reports. U.S. Ambassador James Pardew warned six years ago it's very likely that Russian influence on Bulgarian economy to grow.

Novinite Wikileaks says that telegram was published a few days after the company Bulgarian Neftochim, the only refinery in the country, controlled by Russian giant, has stopped production after authorities Bulgarian have revoked license. Novinite Agency states that Lukoil is one of the largest contributors to the budget in Bulgaria, about 20% of all taxes paid in the neighboring country.
