The European Union Courts of Justice ruled on Thursday that printer and computer manufacturers may be forced to pay taxes. However, the judgement also states that the taxes are to be imposed so that the owners of the copyrights that printer users might or might not be violate are fairly compensated for the violations - even before they happen. The ruling doesn't account for public domain, or authorized copying, as these users will also be made to compensate the copyright holders.
