International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900’s. It is celebrated annually on March 8th and in some countries such as China, Russia, and Vietnam International Women’s Day is a national holiday. In the United States however, Mother’s Day – an annual celebration honoring mothers and celebrating motherhood - seems more popular. In contrast, International Women’s Day honors the economic, political and social achievements of all women independent of motherhood. A few days before International women’s Day 2012 it is worth noting that women still face widespread discrimination at home and in the workplace, and in many countries around the globe women are still treated like second class citizens...
