Unfortunately the article sites have no secret, they are just like the rest of us, they need traffic and that will convert into adsense earnings. So they need to be good with Google and then they'll receive much traffic :-)
As for the individual article contributors, they need to focus on writing articles that can generate page views from search engines users.
In fact those article sites, just like SheToldMe.com are just sites like every other, their only strength is in the number of article writers and the amount of content they generate, which make the site look good to Google eyes, which will generate traffic.
