Loophole Allows Unlimited Data Plans for iPhone Customers

While most service providers have been working hard to purge the word "unlimited" from our data service vocabulary, it was widely reported recently that AT&T will allow past subscribers who had an unlimited data plan to switch back. Current speculation is that it was a calculated move carefully timed with the new release of the iPhone 4 on the Verizon network to limit the exodus of subscribers to what is generally considered to be a more reliable network. Plan pricing is expected to match the traditional format where subscribers can get unlimited data usage at a flat rate of $30 per month. Only time will tell if the death of unlimited plans will actually materialize. For now, the carriers seem to be putting forth a large volume of talk and very little concrete action that would remove unlimited wireless data plans altogether.

T-Mobile USA Inc., the fourth- largest U.S. wireless carrier, is countering the industry’s shift to tiered data pricing by rolling out a new unlimited plan on Sept. 5.

The program provides unrestricted talk, text and data for $89.99 a month, T-Mobile said today in a statement. The move comes a day after MetroPCS Communications Inc. (PCS), a pay-as-you-go carrier, introduced a promotional $55 unlimited plan.

Commercially, they are branded as 'Hari ng Unlimited.'
