While most service providers have been working hard to purge the word "unlimited" from our data service vocabulary, it was widely reported recently that AT&T will allow past subscribers who had an unlimited data plan to switch back. Current speculation is that it was a calculated move carefully timed with the new release of the iPhone 4 on the Verizon network to limit the exodus of subscribers to what is generally considered to be a more reliable network. Plan pricing is expected to match the traditional format where subscribers can get unlimited data usage at a flat rate of $30 per month. Only time will tell if the death of unlimited plans will actually materialize. For now, the carriers seem to be putting forth a large volume of talk and very little concrete action that would remove unlimited wireless data plans altogether.
