Today- July 28, 2011 is World Hepatitis Day - Bringing much needed attention to the disease that affects almost 1 in 3 on earth. Viral hepatitis is one of the most prevalent and serious infectious diseases in the world. The campaign is called Know It, Confront It. Hepatitis affects everyone and the campaign was designed to highlight the fact that more than two billion people have been infected by the virus, and each year nearly one million deaths are attributed to viral hepatitis infections. Millions who have the disease don’t know it and could be unknowingly spreading this infection.

Bladder infections are more common in women as compared to men. Commonly, bladder infection is referred as urinary tract infections. It is also called as cystitis; a condition which defines inflammation of the bladder. Symptoms of bladder infection are more observed in women as compared to men, according to researches. About 20% of all women are affected by this condition at some time in their lives. Bladder infections are caused by bacteria and nearly 80% of bladder infections are caused due to the bacteria Escherichia coli (E.coli).

Generally, bladder infections are treated with antibiotics, and treatment usually lasts one to two weeks. With three to four days of medication, the infection itself may clear up but most doctors prefer a longer period of medication to make sure that the infection does not happen again.

Doctors may prescribe long-term antibiotics for women who suffer from recurrent bladder infections.
