A new test for Alzheimer's has been developed which can predict the onset of the disease with 95% accuracy in people suffering from memory problems.

Professor Clive Ballard explains how the test will help develop new drug treatments for the disease.

According to Belgian researchers, Alzheimer's could be predicted in patients by measuring certain proteins in spinal fluid. This disease could be detected in early stages in healthy people as well.

Two proteins amyloid and tau—which are related to plaque and tangles associated with Alzheimer's—are 90% accurate to determining the risk of Alzheimer's. This study was able to detect 100% of people that had some form of memory impairment who may have Alzheimer's within 5 years.
