Taiwan, the world's largest supplier of LED by volume, is marrying modern light-emitting diode technology with traditional textiles - to create wedding gowns which glitter and glow in the dark.

Created by the Taiwan Textile Research Institute, the secret to the luminous fabric lies in the yarn.

"Most LED yarn is hard, but we overcome that by making it soft. We (also) make it washable (and) wire the yarn in a way that can be used," said Taiwan Textile Research Institute president, Mr Bai Chi Chung.
