Hattiesburg Civic Light Opera (HCLO) will hold auditions for the musical Annie on Monday, August 23 and Tuesday, August 24 at Pearl River Community College's Hattiesburg campus.The HCLO is in its 35th year of providing quality family theatre productions for Pine Belt residents. Past performances have included Always, Patsy Cline, Peter Pan, and The Barber of Seville, among many others. Most performances take place at the Saenger Theatre in downtown Hattiesburg.

South Mississippi Ballet Theatre to hold open auditions for Dracula and The Nutcracker
South Mississippi Ballet Theatre in Hattiesburg will hold open auditions for two performances, Dracula and The Nutcracker, on Saturday, August 21 and Sunday, August 22.
A $15 audition fee is required. Everyone who auditions is guaranteed a part in at least one of the performances.
Attire for auditions for girls is a solid color leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a bun. Attire for boys and men is a white t-shirt, black shorts or tights, and black or white ballet shoes.
Hattiesburg, Petal, Purvis, and Sumrall libraries offer story times for toddlers
Several public libraries in the Pine Belt offer story times for children. These are typically geared to boys and girls ages 2 to 5. Story time usually consists of reading two or three short books and a craft, and sometimes games or snacks. This can be a fun, educational time for your little one to spend with other children and get to know their local library.

Jeff Bates and Great Southern Stampede PCA Rodeo come to Hattiesburg
A Jeff Bates concert on Thursday, August 26 will kick off the Great Southern Stampede PCA Rodeo on the nights of August 27 and 28 at the Forrest County Multipurpose Center in Hattiesburg.
Well-known country music artist and Hattiesburg native Jeff Bates will perform along with new country duo the JaneDear Girls and Thompson Square on August 26. Tickets are available now and can be purchased at the FCMPC box office, Boot Country, and Hub City West Farm and Garden. The concert begins at 7:30 PM and doors open at 6:30 PM.

Hattiesburg Forerunners provides competitive sports opportunities for homeschool students
Hattiesburg Forerunners is a local sports organization for homeschool boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 18. They have basketball programs for boys and for girls and a boys' baseball team.
The Forerunners teams have competed, and won, at the regional and state levels. The boys' basketball team won the Mississippi State Homeschool Tournament in 2008. The teams compete against other homeschool teams as well as against public and private schools.
