Many people are unaware of the fact that a volunteer experience in Costa Rica doesn’t have to be very expensive. I recently returned from a three month stint where I volunteered in three different locations and paid less than 200$ in fees.

Costa Rica is a country that’s renowned for breathtaking beauty and biodiversity. It is a country that attracts over a million visitors annually and it is fast becoming one of the world’s most popular destinations. The reason for its popularity is obvious, not only does it have both a Caribbean and Pacific coastline but it also has some of the most diverse rainforests in the world. On top of that the people are friendly and welcoming.Therefore,it’s no wonder that people are increasingly deciding to relocate to Costa Rica, either for a portion of the year or for good.

I admit it: I'm a complete xenophobe.

The first time I heard that lots of American Baby Boomers were retiring to Costa Rica, my mind puked up a Banana-esque scene from a Woody Allen movie in which a bunch of formerly cool yuppie swingers from the 1970s get herded into the jungle by Che Guevara wannabes and machete-ed to death while howler monkeys grab at their wallets and shiny gold watches.

That wasn't very enlightened of me, I know.

Beautiful Costa Rican actress Maribel Guardia was born on May 29, 1959 (yes she is 50 years old!) in (of course) Costa Rica.
In 1978, she won the Miss Costa Rica pageant, and then went on to represent her contry at the Miss World and Miss Universe (she won Miss Photogenic there) contests.
Maribel then moved to Mexico in 1980, and she appeared in her first television show that same year.

Fly fishing in Costa Rica is year round – the time of year really dictating where you should be based.
