Of course then they were the WWF Divas because the company hadn't changed it's name yet.
But 2000 saw major changes in the female WWF roster.
And the start of some very "unusual" WWE wrestling matches.
After ringing in 2000, as JR would say, "Business was about to pick up" in the women's wrestling division.

Here is my third Hub about Japanese female wrestling, this time with female wrestling video!
I can talk about joshi puroresu (Japanese women wrestling) all I want, but until you actually see what I mean, you won't understand.
These women put on performances that would make Triple H or John Cena proud.
If all you have seen of female wrestling are the WWE Divas or the TNA Knockouts, get ready for a shock.
These wrestlers can go to the floor like MMA fighters or Greco-Roman wrestlers, then turn around and hit high flying moves that would make Rey Mysterio gasp.

Here is my fifth history of the WWE Divas Hub.
This one covers the WWE Divas from 2005 to 2007.

As I mentioned in the last Hub, Ashley Massaro won the 2005 WWE Diva Search.
This was the first Diva Search where the WWE was rumored to have emphasized that the contestants didn't need any wrestling experience, or even really a desire to wrestle.
But the lady that won it actually wanted to wrestle.
Ashley Massaro came from a family with an amateur wrestling background and she really did want to get in the ring.

After 2002, the now WWE entered what a lot of wrestling fans consider the "dark days".
Oh the popularity of the Divas kept going up to be sure, but a lot of these new women came from model agencies, swimsuit magazines and of course...The Diva Search.

But the WWE didn't totally turn it's back on real wrestling.
On the June 30, 2002 edition of Monday Night Raw, Gail Kim debuted and she promptly won a seven-woman battle royal in Buffalo, New York for the WWE Women's Championship.
This made Gail the first woman of Korean descent to win the WWE Women's Championship belt.
