Aug. 30 (Bloomberg) -- Chula Vista, California, became the fifth straight U.S. team to win the Little League World Series, beating Taiwan 6-3 in the championship game.
Chula Vista scored three runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to rally from a 3-1 deficit at Lamade Stadium in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Andy Rios went 3-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run for the West Regional champions, who didn’t hit a home run against the Asian-Pacific representatives after setting a Little League World Series-record with 19 through their first five games.
Chula Vista’s Park View Little League, which is located south of San Diego, is the first team from California to win the championship for 11- and 12-year-olds since Long Beach captured back-to-back titles in 1992-93.
Taiwan was seeking to claim its record 18th championship and first since 1996. The last team from outside the U.S. to win the Little League World Series was Willemstad, Curacao, in 2004.
