The registration for the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore is now open. The marathon will be held on 4 Dec 2011. The marathon format has been tweaked following participants' feedback. There are 8 categories - the full marathon (42.195km), half marathon(21.1km),10km men, 10km women, 10km wheelchair, 5km fun run, Kids Dash (750m for 4 different age groups)and the Team event - Ekiden, with 6 runners running a 42.195km relay. China will also be loaning two baby pandas to Singapore for a 10—year period, as part of a collaboration between the China Wildlife Conservation Association and Wildlife Reserves Singapore to mark the 20th anniversary of Sino—Singapore relations. Singapore will be the 7th country to get these animals on loan — after the US, Japan, Austria, Australia, Spain and Thailand. There are only 1,600 pandas in the world, of which 268 are in captivity, with only 30 of these outside China. China has conducted panda diplomacy previously in high-profile diplomatic gestures.

Some of the world's biggest music acts will descend on Singapore in September when the city hosts the F1 night race.

They will be taking part in the inaugural F1 Rocks event which was launched in London and Singapore on Tuesday.

Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas and Jacky Cheung are some of the stars that will perform at the US$8 million event.

It will be held at Fort Canning Park from September 24 to 26, and fans will be able to buy tickets which cost from S$150 to S$210.

Thirteen endangered sea turtles born and bred in Japan were released off Singapore waters Tuesday as part of efforts to conserve the species.

The five one-year-olds and eight three-year-olds are the offspring of Hawksbill turtles donated by the Underwater World Singapore aquarium to the Port of Nagoya aquarium in 1997 and 2002.
