The nature of marketing is changing. Think about how different our habits are today than in years past. Today, we record our favorite shows with TiVo or DVR and fast forward through the commercials. Many of us no longer listen to the radio, instead opting for sattelite radio with no commercials or listening to our favorite tracks on iPods or mp3 players. Retailers are finding it more and more difficult to get their products and services in front of the public.

This is where cash back shopping comes in. Since the old ways of marketing don't work in today's society, referral marketing or one-to-one marketing is now the best means of reaching others. While I might turn the channel if a commercial comes on, I certainly wouldn't walk away from a friend while they were telling me about a cool new movie they saw, their favorite restaurant, a great new book they read, etc. Referral marketing is more socially acceptable because we aren't being "sold" by somebody trying to take advantage of us. Retailers are learning this and adapting. So today, instead of spending millions of advertising dollars on traditional marketing they are spending their advertising budgets on creative marketing tools such as cash back shopping.

And the public gets the benefit! This is a win-win for all involved.
