This is the tale of how William Mullholland and his cronies convinced the people of the Owens Valley to have their water diverted to Los Angeles, Ca., at the beginning of the 20th century. Through bribery, cajolery and otherwise dirty politics, Mullholland, then head of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, managed to build an aqueduct from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles by purchasing 90% of the land and water rights. This remains the case today.
