1. Go along with your kids while they ring doorbells. Sadly enough, our streets just aren't as safe as they were when we were kids.
2. Help your children pick out or make a Halloween costume that will be safe. For babies, make sure it's not too tight, doesn't cover their face, and doesn't have any parts or decals that could be pulled off and put in their mouth. Older kids need to have fire-retardant costumes that are easily seen at night - try reflective stickers. Make sure nothing hangs down that could be tripped over (long pants or cloaks). Also, be sure your kids can see well through any mask or face covering.
3. Make sure kids understand not to eat any candy until they get it home and you can check it out. Discard anything that loks like it might have been tampered with.
