With the economy in the dumps, millions of homes have gone into foreclosure in the US. What happened, how it happened, and who or what is responsible, meant nothing to this economist/writer when she was hit by the reality of the families behind the numbers.
I am a student of the economy; an economist, to be specific. I have a decent knowledge about the workings of our economy, and I watch the numbers on a daily basis. Although I am retired from working in the markets, I still follow the Stock and Bond Markets everyday. This makes me a numbers person, in a way.
Today I am visiting a suburb of Kansas City Missouri. As we drove through a residential area yesterday, I noticed that lots of the houses were vacant. Furthermore, some of the homes had those stickers and notes on the front window that proclaim that the specific home is in foreclosure. My own neighborhood in California is not is in this same state of affairs, so what I saw yesterday, close up and personally, was something new for me. It also hit me in a way I didn’t expect.
