The entire country is shocked that on July 5th 2011 a Florida jury acquitted Casey Anthony of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee three years ago. In response to the not guilty verdict people have held protests in front of the Anthony home, while people on Facebook are expressing their outrage by creating pages such as “Boycott Casey Anthony Books/Movie Deals etc!!! KEEP HER in the Poorhouse.” However, according to the American Anthropological Association about 200 women kill their children in the United States each year, and it is estimated that 3 to 5 children in the United States are killed by their parents every day. When a mother kills her own child usually the courts and the public assume she is extremely ill. Unfortunately, some child killers, including mothers who commit filicide are simply cold blooded murderers who should, and usually are punished to the full extent of the law.

Anthony, 25, wept after the clerk read the verdict, which jurors reached after less than 11 hours of deliberation over two days. She was charged with first-degree murder, which could have brought the death penalty if she had been convicted.
