Early preparation for a barbecue is important. About 12 to 24 hours prior to your plan on starting out the party, be sure to prepare, thaw, and marinate the meat you will be grilling. Once you have soaked the meat for marinating, then you must begin planning the side dishes you plan to serve. To be safe and to avoid too many leftovers, you may wish to stay with traditional servings. Traditional barbeque side dishes include potato-based dishes, coleslaw, and baked beans. Your condiment bar should have pickles, dips, relish, ketchup, and onions. These types of food are commonly served at barbeques because of the ease of preparation and availability. You may also want to cook other food items, but any regular barbeque is good with just the basic items.
