Bullying st school is a huge problem for kids. A brand new report just stated that bullying in public schools was declining. However, that is a very recent report. It has been rising for the past decade, and even with a recent decline, it is still a huge problem. Every year, in fact, kids skip school to avoid a bully. The real problem is that bullying has taken on many new forms that are hard to observe first hand (like cyber bullying for example) and kids often do not report bullying.

Cyber bullying can take many forms. It can be threatening emails and instant messages, spreading rumors in online forums or posting harassing messages on a blog. Cyber bullying can be more emotionally damaging that traditional bullying because of its invasive nature. Kids can escape a bully from school, but not if the bully makes her way into their email inboxes and instant messages.

Recently in the news, two young boys both age 11, in Illinois and Georgia, committed suicide because they were victims of bullying. Almost 30% of youth in the U.S. are estimated to be involved in bullying, as either a bully, a target of bullying, or both. Bullying takes on different forms; not just physical, but also gossiping or encouraging other children to isolate or reject an individual child. A child who is the target of bullying may have feelings of being tense, anxious and afraid. It can also affect their concentration in school as well as their self-esteem.
