No, we are not talking about walking here. We are talking about distances between notes on the guitar. They are also known as intervals. But I prefer to use the terms half steps and whole steps, because it is less confusing.

Also do not get these terms confused with Whole Notes and Half Notes. We are talking about something completely different here.

What is a Guitar Capo?
The Guitar Capo is just a device that allows you to play in a higher position on the neck and in other key signatures without having to know any additional notes.
Simply imagine it this way. A Guitar Capo is like having a movable Guitar Nut (see that in our guitar parts glossary article).

The First Position:
With playing guitar, you will be playing in what is called “positions”. This is not a difficult thing to understand once you get the hang of it.

If you look at your guitar, you notice that you have either 12 or 14 frets before the neck joins the body of the guitar. Now all of these frets are not for decoration. They serve a useful purpose.

We can play what musicians call “up the neck”. What this means is that you play notes on the upper frets, or in other “positions”.

Accidentals are just a fancy way of saying Sharp, Flat or Natural. For our first few lessens we have played all notes as Naturals. Chords in the Key of C Major:
In the first few months of our guitar lessons we have been playing in the key of C Major. If you remember we have one key for each note name. So going through our lists of notes…A B C D E G G, we would have a key for each of these notes. For example we would have A Major, B Major, C Major, D Major and so on.

Also if you review the article on Accidentals, we will have a key for each of these names too. For Example…Ab Major, Bb Major, Db Major, Eb Major and so on.
